Pertama Ferroalloys Sdn. Bhd. (abbreviated as “Pertama” hereafter) was named by the former Chief Minister of the Sarawak State of Malaysia, meaning the FIRST manganese ferroalloy smelting plant in Malaysia. The plant will occupy around 180 hectares of land in the Samalaju Industrial Zone in Bintulu of the Sarawak State, Malaysia.

Pertama is jointly owned by Asia Minerals Limited, Nippon Denko Company Limited, Chuo Denki Kogyo Co., Ltd., Shinsho Corporation and Carbon Capital Corporation Sdn. Bhd; while Asia Minerals Limited is the majority shareholder of Pertama.

Construction of the plant started in Q2-2012 and first tapping of the Ferrosilicon furnace was successfully carried out in Q2 2016 with the next tapping for the Silicon Manganese furnace scheduled in Q3 2016. The remaining furnaces are to follow at scheduled intervals within the year with full commercial operation in Q2-2017.

To secure the supply of low cost power supply for the plant, Pertama had signed a long term Power Purchase Agreement with Syarikat Sesco Berhad in early 2015.

The final products of the plant will be manganese alloys and ferro silicon. These final products will be consumed locally as well as exported to countries worldwide.
